You’re laying down on the sand happier than a tornado in a junkyard until you see a never ending line of buses with hordes of tourists from humongous cruise ships.
Yes, they also have the right to have fun at the beach but you want them to have fun at another beach.
Or…you can go to other beaches. Let me introduce you to the island of Nevis. Does Nevis have nice beaches? Yes. Not only are they nice and beautiful with clear water, but they offer the perfect escape from the crowds.
Although cruise ships do stop in Nevis, it’s the small ones carrying about 250 people. The big ones, with thousands of passengers, dock in St. Kitts from where you can take a water taxi or a ferry to Nevis (or a pricey flight in a small plane).

These are the best beaches on Nevis island
Table of Contents
Herbert’s Beach
Herbert’s Beach is a secluded beach with a narrow stretch of sand located in the New Castle area, on the Northeast side.
When we visited Herbert’s Beach we ran into five other people, that’s it. So you may have the beach for yourself -especially if you go on a weekday- as it’s more popular with locals. There are no facilities here, the inn that operated in the area has been abandoned for years.
When it’s windy it may not be the best beach for swimming, but it turns into the perfect spot for windsurfing enthusiasts and for kite flyers. When the weather is calmer this is a good spot for snorkeling.
You’ll have great views of Nevis Peak and the south side of St.Kitts.
Oualie Beach
Oualie Beach is located on the Northwest side, on the grounds of the Oualie Beach Resort (you don’t need to stay at the resort for access).
This sandy beach is on the small side, with calm waters but with lots of boats around since there is a nearby pier and a dock for the dive shops and the yacht charters. This is a great spot for pictures of boat silhouettes against the sunset.
Chrishi Beach
Beautiful sandy beach in Cades Bay with a bar and laid-back restaurant on site where you can socialize and enjoy drinks with music in the background. Some days they have live music and a DJ.
The Beach at Yachtsman Grill
This is my favourite beach in Nevis. Why? The entry to the water is easy, with a gentle slope. Sand is fine and hard packed and the water is calm. You see boats gliding in the water with the mountains of St Kitts in the background as you watch the sunset (or Nevis Peak) from the comfortable lounge chairs while tasting a rum from the bar.
Need I say more?
Paradise Beach
The “Paradise Beach” signs you’ll find on the road will take you to the private access of the Paradise Beach Resort. Unless you book one of their villas you won’t be able to access the beach from here. So how do you get there?
Drive past St. Thomas Primary School (heading south) and turn immediately right on the windy bumpy dirt road that will lead you to the beach (don’t expect any signs). Find a spot for your vehicle and enjoy. There are no facilities which also means fewer people.
From here you can head north and take a long walk along the beach up to the point where you’ll walk past the resort.
Pinney’s Beach
Pinney’s Beach is the most famous beach in Nevis where all the action happens and the closest to Charlestown. It’s the longest, widest, and busiest beach on island, with soft sand, calm waves, and many beach bars and restaurants on site.
When I say busiest I’m not talking about an ocean of people. You don’t find huge crowds in Nevis, which is part of its charm. I mean busiest compared to other local beaches. Not your place if you’re looking for total seclusion (but you should go at least once because it’s beautiful and fun).
You can stay on a quieter side of Pinney’s Beach and book a room at the Four Seasons Resort. This is one of the most sought-after and top-rated accommodations in Nevis.
There you have it, the best beaches in Nevis for every occasion. Whether you want to get away from it all, swim, watch the sunset, do windsurfing, or enjoy a drink, you’ll find your perfect spot in this laid-back slice of paradise.
